Sydney, Muharram 9, 1433, Dec 4, 2011, SPA - Australia's ruling Labor Party on Sunday voted to allow uranium sales to India, after Prime Minister Julia Gillard initiated a reversal of party policy. Labor Party was previously opposed to selling any of Australia's rich uranium deposits to India because the nuclear-armed nation is not a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). India had earlier welcomed the proposed move, and said Australian uranium would help it meet its growing energy requirements and reduce dependence on carbon-emitting electricity generation. "We need to make sure that across our regions we have the strongest possible relationships we can, including with the world's largest democracy, India," she was quoted as saying by the German Press Agency "DPA". The delegates at the Labor conference in Sydney voted 206 to 185 to change party policy. --SPA 13:31 LOCAL TIME 10:31 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/949217
