Cairo, Rabi'I 23, 1433, Feb 15, 2012, SPA - Presidential elections will be held in Egypt in late May, the state-run newspaper 'Al-Ahram' reported on Wednesday, quoting Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Mohammed Attia. Nominations for contesting the election will be accepted starting from March 10 for three weeks, added the official, without setting an exact date for the vote, DPA quoted the report as disclosing. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which has been ruling Egypt since former President Hosni Mubarak was forced to step down last February, had earlier said the presidential election would be held in mid-June. "The candidates standing for President will be given around six weeks for campaigning," said Attia. A dozen of presidential hopefuls have already launched bids for the country's top post. --SPA 11:56 LOCAL TIME 08:56 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/970500
