Beirut, Rajab 21, 1433, Jun 11, 2012, SPA - Regime troops in Syria have shelled restive areas in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour on Monday, following overnight clashes between the regime's forces and rebels, activists reported. According to the opposition Local Coordination Committees, which document violence across Syria, at least two people were killed and 45 wounded when shells hit Deir al-Zour. Activists also said that planes struck rebel posts in the central Homs province, while regime's forces attacked areas at the outskirts of the nearby Hama province. "We call on the UN observers to immediately visit Homs to see with their own eyes that planes are being used to shell areas inside Homs," activist Omar Homsi told DPA from the rebel-stronghold province. The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human rights said that violence has left more than 14,000 dead, including security personnel and rebels, since the uprising against President Bashar Al-Assad began in March 2011. --SPA 12:00 LOCAL TIME 09:00 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1006453
