Dakar, Jumada I 2, 1433, Mar 25, 2012, SPA - Polling stations opened Sunday in Senegal, where incumbent President Abdoulaye Wade took on his former prime minister, Macky Sall, in a tight runoff vote, DPA reported. The poll follows a tense first round held in February, in which Wade received 34.8 per cent to Sall's 26.6 per cent. All of the opposition candidates who ran in the initial poll have since backed Sall's campaign. Some 5.3 million people are registered to vote in the country of 13 million. Sunday's poll was being monitored by about 300 international observers from the European Union (EU), African Union (AU) and The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS). Provisional results were expected within about 48 hours. --SPA 12:16 LOCAL TIME 09:16 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/982699
