US forces have conducted three raids in eastern Syria and arrested six ISIS militants, US Central Command said Tuesday. “Over the past 48 hours, US Central Command forces conducted three helicopter raids in eastern Syria,” CENTCOM said in a statement. Six ISIS operatives have been arrested, it added, including a commander identified as Al-Zubaydi who had been “involved in the planning and facilitation” of attacks in Syria. An initial assessment indicated that no civilians were killed or injured, the military statement said. Gen. Michael E. Kurilla, the head of the command, said: “The capture of these ISIS operatives will disrupt the terrorist organization’s ability to further plot and carry out destabilizing attacks.” According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the raids were conducted in coordination with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces between Deir Ezzor and Hasakeh in the country’s east. US troops in Syria are deployed in Kurdish-led areas in the north and northeast of the country. They are present at bases in the governorate of Hasakeh, Deir Ezzor and Raqqa. At a different front in northern Syria, the Observatory said a US-led coalition drone struck a house early Tuesday in the city of Al-Bab, which is controlled by Turkish-affiliated Syrian factions. The Observatory said an ISIS commander from the Arabian Peninsula and two civilians were wounded in the strike. CENTCOM did not respond to a request for comment on the Al-Bab strike.
