The Muslim World League condemned on Thursday the Afghan caretaker government’s decision to deny Afghan women and girls the right to university education. In a statement, the MWL General Secretariat expressed its denunciation and regret at the move that contradicts the teachings of Islam and the consensus of the scholars of the Islamic nation, reported the Saudi Press Agency. The move violates international and human values and deprives Afghan women and girls of their legitimate right to an education and in turn hampers prosperity and development in the country. MWL Secretary General and President of the Organization of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa expressed full solidarity with Afghan women and the population as a whole, stressing that education is a fundamental element in Islam. He called on the Afghan government to reverse its decision and respect the consensus reached by Islamic scholars of various sects and denominations.
