Dahran, February 2, 2023, SPA -- The Saudi Engines Manufacturing Company (Makeen) and Rolls Royce Solutions GmbH (RRS), a world-leading technology company, have signed a MoU to manufacture high-speed engines (F2000, F4000), which are currently in use by the defense and security entities in the Kingdom under the “mtu” brand. This partnership also aims to provide local lifetime product support. The mtu high-speed engines boast numerous marine and land applications, as well as Naval, Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Industrial Equipment, and more. This collaboration is a product of the efforts and initiatives being led by the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) to transform the Kingdom’s burgeoning defense industries sector. Specifically, its focus lies in facilitating the transfer of technology, stimulating job creation, and developing local defense sector supply chains. Ultimately, the objective is to realize the sector’s overarching goal of localizing more than 50% of expenditure on defense equipment and services by the year 2030. GAMI had incorporated the manufacture of these engines as part of the scope of this particular MoU with Rolls Royce Solutions GmbH, due to the German partner’s advanced manufacturing capabilities in this domain. These capabilities are expected to further drive and accelerate the realization of localization targets. Moreover, and due to Makeen’s subsidiary status under Saudi Aramco, the MoU signing was held at Iktva 2023 Forum & Exhibition currently being held in Dhahran. The MoU was signed by Makeen CEO Abdullah Alghamdi and Rolls Royce Director of Industrial Cooperation Paul Roeck. In attendance for the signing were Deputy Governor at GAMI, Gasem Al-Maimani; Makeen Chairman, Mohammad Al Shammary; Saudi Aramco SVP, Sulaiman Ababtain; Manager Director RRS Middle East Sven Sonnenberg; and Makeen VP of Sales & Business Development, Ahmad Kelantan. --SPA 15:39 LOCAL TIME 12:39 GMT 0011 www.spa.gov.sa/w1848782
