Riyadh, November 22, 2022, SPA -- As the first Saudi royal reserve to be registered on this international website and the official source for data on protected lands at governmental institutions and international organizations, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has announced its registration on the Global Database of Nature Reserves. This global recognition is an important step towards the reserve’s joining of the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas, which are administrated effectively, where the authority announced its commitment to joining the IUCN Green List in October this year during a two-day symposium organized by the reserve in Riyadh entitled "Natural reserves, international foundations and standards", in cooperation with the IUCN, with the participation of government agencies, with the aim of achieving the reserve's targets of protecting natural elements and restoring environmental balance. The Protected Planet website is the official and reliable source of globally protected land data as well as providing business planning and environmental conservation mechanisms in the world's nature reserves. The website also provides the basis for monitoring and reporting on progress towards international environmental goals such as the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve is the largest in the Middle East with an area of more than 130,000 square kilometers, extending between four administrative areas: Al-Jawf, Hail, Tabuk and the Northern Borders and includes UNESCO-registered monuments in the Jabba region, where it dates back more than 8 centuries BC. --SPA 17:27 LOCAL TIME 14:27 GMT 0018 www.spa.gov.sa/w1817109
