Bern, October 26, 2022, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is taking part in the meetings of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Board of Directors being held until October 28 in Bern, Switzerland, in its capacity as a deputy of the Union’s Board of Directors. In statements by the head of the Kingdom's delegation to the meetings, the Deputy Minister for logistic services at the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, Eng. Loay Mashabi, stressed the importance of these international participations for the Kingdom, in which experiences are exchanged. He stressed the importance of a strong international presence due to the importance of discussions, topics, knowledge exchange, and coordination, especially as the world is currently redefining postal services and parcel transport in a new way. He said that goods today know no borders and come from every country and factory to every home, and there must be cooperation between countries in this field, highlighting the importance of the UPU Conference next year 2023, which will discuss important topics including changing the definition of the union and companies that participate, during which 192 member states will take part to reach outcomes in the interest of the whole world. Eng. Mashabi stressed the Kingdom’s effective role in international forums, noting that the Kingdom has been a UPU member since 1927, and it is among the founding members of the Union. He added that the Kingdom’s role has shifted from learning from them and developing its system, to presenting the experiences it has made for the benefit of the rest of the world, where the Kingdom has become today, one of the most successful and effective countries in investing these organizations to improve and raise the quality of life for the citizens and residents.
