Saudi Women’s Informatics Team Wins 3 Awards at European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI)

Riyadh, October 22, 2022, SPA -- Saudi Women's Informatics Team won 3 international awards in its first participation in the second edition of the European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI), which was held in Turkey from October 16 to 23, 2022, among 164 female students representing 43 countries. According to the results announced today, Leen Qanash, grade 11, from the Jeddah Education Department, who underwent preparation and training for 1266 hours at King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), won a silver medal. Qanash had previously won a gold medal in the Mawhib Informatics Competition 2020, and a silver medal in the Kangaroo Competition 2020. Jouri Al-Juhani, grade 11, from the Department of Education in Madinah, who underwent preparation and training for 1266 hours at Mawhiba, won a bronze, while Al-Juhani, grade 11, from the Department of Education in Madinah, won a bronze medal after obtaining 1266 hours of training in the talent, while Zouf Baaqil from the Jeddah Education Department, won a bronze medal, after receiving 938 hours of training at Mawhiba. The Secretary-General of Mawhiba Dr. Amal Al-Hazzaa extended congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH the Crown Prince for this national achievement and thanked the Saudi leadership for their support for the talented Saudis' participation in international competitions. Dr. Al-Hazzaa also thanked the Minister of Education and the Ministry for the support provided to Mawhiba, congratulated the students, their families, and schools for their outstanding achievement, and said "The Ministry of Education and Mawhiba are keen to qualify Saudi teams to participate and compete in the various Olympiads, at the hands of Saudi and international specialists and trainers, and to advance them to higher levels of international excellence".
