Riyadh, September 15, 2022, SPA -- The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has announced launching the first phase of an initiative to recycle electronic devices "recycle your device", in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) and the private sector, where the initiative seeks to enhance the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's goals in realizing Sustainable Development Goals. The commission noted that the initiative is part of its social responsibility to increase awareness of individuals and institutions on their roles towards recycling electronic devices and achieving environmental sustainability, and is characterized by expanded partnerships with the private sector to provide a national movement to implement it as per its time span extending until the end of December, 2022. CITC pointed out that the initiative has two stages; the first includes receiving participation applications from the private sector to donate their devices between September and December, 2022, while the second phase targets individuals' applications and extends between October and December, 2022. The commission said that it targets recycling five types of electronic devices, including mobile and fixed phone, modem devices, printers, laptops and personal computers, noting that the recycling process will include two paths to repair devices and donating them to needy families or recycling them according to specialized means. It will also allocate a website showing the ways of delivering devices to the commission and to receive inquiries and to show statistics. Launching the campaign is part of the commission's efforts after announcing the first of its kind report about sustainability in the ICT sector, which displays CITC's strategic trends to empower sustainable and circular economy. --SPA 14:58 LOCAL TIME 11:58 GMT 0020 www.spa.gov.sa/w1785239
