SAIP Announces Inspection Numbers for the First Half of 2022

Riyadh, September 18, 2022, SPA -- The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) has published the numbers of the inspection work for the first half of 2022, as part of its efforts to protect intellectual property rights in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, the General Authority for Audiovisual Media and Public Security, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Food and Drug General Authority, and the Civil Defense in integration between the entities to respect intellectual property rights in the Kingdom through field tours targeting facilities that violate intellectual property rights regulations in various regions of the Kingdom. The numbers showed that more than 5 million items infringing intellectual property rights were seized during the inspection campaigns, including products and goods in violation of the trademark law and works protected under the copyright protection law. The numbers indicated that more than 4,000 visits were targeted to enforce intellectual property of which, 869 visits to the mystery shopper visits, Which are exploratory tours of the facilities that have been identified based on pre-defined risk criteria for the facilities with the aim of inferring and collecting primary data supporting the ideal inspection process with positive results, where a qualified mystery shopper is sent to play the role of beneficiary. In addition to the electronic inspection visits during in which 3,036 websites and content violating intellectual property regulations were blocked and removed. Through continuous inspection campaigns with partner entities, SAIP seeks to enhance awareness of the importance of respecting rights and complying with regulations and laws related to intellectual property, which contributes to support innovators and creators in our country and building a conscious society that respects intellectual property. SAIP stressed that it will take necessary actions and measures to hold accountable violators in all IP areas SAIP competent with, and will take care of their rights, and called on citizens and residents to support the efforts to respect intellectual property rights by communicating with the SAIP’s official channels through social media @saipksa and e-mail Saip@Saip.gov.sa and the direct number for customer service 920021421, and report anyone who commits an act that violates the intellectual property rights protection regulations in the Kingdom. --SPA 10:28 LOCAL TIME 07:28 GMT 0005 www.spa.gov.sa/w1786099
