Riyadh, August 30, 2022, SPA -- The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has called on all beneficiaries from group SMS service to contact contracted SMS service providers to register sender names at the e-system before the end of the final period that was extended to September 30, 2022, so as to avoid the halt of accredited services on the SMS service, where any SMS that does not have the sender name on the system will not be sent. The commission said that the new procedures is part of its role in regulating the sector and protecting users against the misuse of group SMS and fraud SMS, noting that the grace period was extended in consideration for the interests of public and beneficiary institutions, where CITC has set this final extension to register all the existing names of senders and receive all requirements of the registration after it worked with SMS service providers to register sender names for beneficiaries and document them through an e-system via the block chain since March 20, 2022. The commission highlighted the importance for all beneficiaries to contact all contracted SMS providers and provide them with the required data and documents so as to avoid any interruption of services that rely on the SMS service, noting that it will hold no legal responsibility for any possible shortcoming resulting from halting SMS due to lack of commitment to registering sender names on the system. --SPA 14:42 LOCAL TIME 11:42 GMT 0010 www.spa.gov.sa/w1778877
