Vladivostok, August 8, 2022, SPA -- The total forest fire area in Russia increased by almost 6,000 hectares over the past 24 hours to 184,500 hectares, the press service of the Aerial Forest Fire Center reported on Monday according to TASS News Agency. As of early Monday, the forest fire area was 178,700 hectares. "Forty-three forest fires on an area of 5,929 hectares were extinguished in Russia over the past 24 hours, on August 7, 2022. As of 00:00 am Moscow time, on August 8, 2022, 148 forest fires on an area of 184,523 hectares were active on the territory of the Russian Federation with extinguishment activities underway," the report said. The largest fire areas were registered in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area, with 81,998 hectares on fire, the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), with 70,523 hectares on fire, and the Magadan Region (15,075 hectares on fire). Some 4,263 individuals and 290 equipment units were involved in fire extinguishing activities. Sixty-six aircraft were monitoring the fire situation.
