Riyadh, June 20, 2022, SPA -- President of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority Dr. Jalal Al-Owaisi and an accompanying delegation participated in the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) following the win of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the authority, of membership of the board of directors during the elections of the 23rd meeting of the General Assembly of IFRC currently held in Geneva. The meeting included discussing the Climate and Environment Charter for humanitarian organizations, which aims to stimulate collective work to maximize response to climate and environmental crises, mainly towards the most suffering classes of these crises, where the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed the charter and expresses approval for its huge humanitarian goals. The charter obliges signatory countries to seven main items: stepping up response to growing humanitarian needs and helping people adapt to the impacts of the climate and environmental crises; maximizing the environmental sustainability of work and rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions; embracing the leadership of local actors and communities; increasing capacity to understand climate and environmental risks and developing evidence-based solutions; working collaboratively across the humanitarian sector and beyond to strengthen climate and environmental action; using influence to mobilize urgent and more ambitious climate action and environmental protection; and developing targets and measuring progress as countries implement commitments. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s approval of this charter is due to the fact that it greatly matches the Kingdom Vision 2030 and the initiatives of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, mainly the Saudi Green Initiative that seeks to increase green cover, reduce carbon emissions, combat pollution and preserve marine life, in addition to the Middle East Green Initiative that brings together leaders from inside and outside of the region to discuss the impacts of climate change and create a huge economy for climate action. --SPA 19:26 LOCAL TIME 16:26 GMT 0026 www.spa.gov.sa/w1749031
