Mogadishu, May 15, 2022, SPA -- Ex-president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was elected new President of Somalia during presidential elections held under protection of African Union peacekeepers in capital Mogadishu today. The presidential elections committee said, in a statement, that Mohamud collected 214 votes against 110 cast in favor of incubent president Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo in a final third round. In a previous second runoff, the number of presidential candidates decreased from 36 to four. They were Saeed Abdullah Dani, Head of Bilad Bant State; incubent president Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmaajo; Ex-president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud; and former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khairi. --SPA 04:15 LOCAL TIME 01:15 GMT 0005 www.spa.gov.sa/w1732771
