Ministry of Environment launches Regional Center for Sustainable Development of Fisheries

Riyadh, Dec. 12, 2021, SPA -- The National Program for the Development of the Fisheries Sector, an affiliate of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, has launched the Regional Center for Sustainable Development of Fisheries, which was announced by HRH the Crown Prince, during the Middle East Green Summit held in Riyadh recently. The program is designed to focus on research in the fisheries sector and aquaculture related to the health of animals and aquatic organisms and the management of fisheries, in addition to the protection of the marine resources of the Kingdom's seas. Dr. Ali Al-Shaikhi, CEO of the National Fisheries Development Program, which was announced during a workshop organized by the ministry, said that the ambitious goals set by the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which include providing seafood with a high nutritional value, reducing dependence on imported food products, allocating job opportunities, and supporting a sustainable future by preserving our natural resources for future generations, call for extensive and continuous research in the fields of aquaculture, fisheries management, marine environment, and biodiversity, in addition to understanding the impact of climate change on these resources. --SPA 23:17 LOCAL TIME 20:17 GMT 0040 www.spa.gov.sa/w1664240
