Riyadh, March 03, 2022, SPA -- King Salman International Complex for the Arabic Language participated today at UNESCO’s Fifth Meeting of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032, which includes the participation of a 19-member steering committee from UNESCO member states and other organizations. The UN General Assembly had declared 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages, and UNESCO was entrusted with the responsibility of organizing this year’s activities, which resulted in the establishment of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032. The UNESCO data indicates that nearly 40% of the 7,000 languages spoken in the world are at risk of extinction, with experts confirming that indigenous languages are weaker than others since their use is confined to a limited scope and communicative functions and that many of these languages are oral languages. --SPA 21:32 LOCAL TIME 18:32 GMT 0031 www.spa.gov.sa/w1700630
