Saudi Press: Saudi Arabia Targets Net Zero Emissions by 2060

Riyadh, November 02, 2021, SPA -- Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas. Al-Bilad newspaper reported in its editorial that the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is part of its ambitious vision to localize a large proportion of the renewable energy value chains in the national economy and to support industrialization and development in this promising sector, in addition to diversifying local energy sources. In this regard, HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, announced, in his speech at the Green Saudi Initiative (SGI) forum, held recently, that Saudi Arabia aims to reach net zero by 2060 through the circular carbon economy (CCE) approach, in line with its development plans, economic diversification, in addition to its leading role in enhancing the security and stability of global energy markets, the paper said. HRH Crown Prince launched two pioneering initiatives to address climate change through nature namely the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) and the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI), the paper added.
