Riyadh, October 26, 2021, SPA -- The first session of the fifth edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) dealt with the launch of a new era in human progress and artificial intelligence (AI), and the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic on the world. Former First Lady of Mozambique and South Africa Graça Machel explained in a session entitled "How the global investment community can launch a new era in human progress", and moderated by Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the USA, that artificial intelligence has exceeded the limits of science and technology and despite the AI achievements in different fields, it caused high unemployment rate, pointing out that the world currently faces a crisis with regard to education, where millions of children have not received adequate education despite injecting about USD 5 trillion into global education. In recent decades, people have faced large and rapid transformations that have contributed to generating knowledge at an unprecedented speed, and this was not for free, she said. Graça Machel added that the Covid-19 pandemic has widened the difference between people in two worlds, one world where 70% of people have received the vaccine, while there is another world that suffers from the threat of the virus, noting that only 4% of the African population has received the vaccine. She stressed the importance of justice in distributing the vaccine since this is a matter of life or death, calling on decision makers to invest in minds, promote justice and better build human solidarity among the peoples of the world to create a bright future. --SPA 14:26 LOCAL TIME 11:26 GMT 0015 www.spa.gov.sa/w1641688
