Riyadh, December 16, 2021, SPA -- UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths has praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s efforts, being provided through King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to support Yemen with the aim of alleviating the suffering under the current humanitarian crisis, noting that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is not only an important donor for Yemen but also to all needy countries in the world. In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following his visit to KSrelief’s headquarters Wednesday, Griffiths referred to the great achievements of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through KSrelief in Yemen, such as clearing the Yemeni lands from Houthi mines, rehabilitating recruited and affected children from the Yemeni conflict, programs of supporting food security and enhancing the Yemeni health sector, in addition to efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and limit its risks. He also expressed appreciation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on its generous financial support provided for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and other UN agencies, stressing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will have a central role in the future administration of OCHA, noting that the existing cooperation between OCHA and KSrelief has several aspects and is not limited to financing, where both sides cooperate in combating several challenges related to delivering aid to beneficiaries, especially that their humanitarian work focus on neutrality and non-discrimination, which reflects harmony in their works. Griffiths said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2022 will head the presidency of OCHA Donor Support Group, which gives more importance to his current visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. --SPA 12:55 LOCAL TIME 09:55 GMT 0012 www.spa.gov.sa/w1666152
