Riyadh, October 17, 2021, SPA -- World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), has won the 2021 Award of UN Inter-Agency Task Force (UNIATF) on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), for its efforts in preventing and controlling NCDs through improving the nutritional value of food via preparing and applying the Healthy Food Strategy. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings. This award, presented by the highest international and health institutions (UN and WHO), represents an international recognition of SFDA's quality of services and its laws that boost public health. The awards aim at enhancing cooperation between various UN agencies and ministries and public organizations in the world to support government efforts on non-communicable diseases related to the Sustainable Development Goals. SFDA’s Healthy Food Strategy started in 2018 with the aim of improving the value of food products, reducing the rate of being infected with chronic diseases in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through reducing the amounts of sugar, salt and fat in food products, and enabling consumers to find healthier food options. --SPA 14:49 LOCAL TIME 11:49 GMT 0013 www.spa.gov.sa/w1636242
