Riyadh, June 20, 2021, SPA -- Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas. Al-Bilad newspaper said in its editorial that based on its pioneering role and considering the importance of this role in alleviating human suffering, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the largest donor countries in the world, whose humanitarian work includes many countries without discrimination. Therefore, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia established King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), to be a leading institution for relief and humanitarian work, providing aid to the needy and affected people worldwide through using an accurate monitoring mechanism and advanced transportation methods, in cooperation with the United Nations organizations and international and local non-profit organizations in the beneficiary countries, the newspaper further said. On the other hand, the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) provides financing for development projects in developing countries and grants for financing studies and institutional support.  It also provides financing and guarantees for national non-oil exports. In another context, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported in its editorial that desertification is considered one of the most important global environmental issues that threaten about 30% of the earth's surface. Therefore, World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed each year on June 17, as mandated by the United Nations, to combat the degradation of land in arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid areas and raise awareness of aggravated dangers of desertification and the importance of maintaining biodiversity. The newspaper added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and most Arab countries are located within the arid areas. To celebrate World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, Saudi Arabia has activated numerous programs and events. It also worked on implementing plans and projects that confront desertification. Saudi Arabia announced the executive regulations for the development of vegetation cover and combating desertification. Moreover, the Kingdom has promoted sustainable development and worked to raise awareness on the dangers of desertification and the importance of  preserving biodiversity, the newspaper added. The government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has also imposed laws and penalties to prevent excessive logging, and to confront poor agricultural methods. It has also established centers specialized in sustainable development and combating the deterioration of natural resources, in order to avoid the causes of land degradation, desertification and loss of biodiversity, the newspaper concluded. Meanwhile, Al-Yaum newspaper reported in its editorial that the ongoing Arab, Islamic and international condemnation of the crimes and attacks committed by Iran-backed militias affirm that these acts destabilize the security and stability of the region, threaten global stability as well as the global economy, energy and international trade. These condemnations also come as an explicit rejection of Iranian behavior, which relies on terrorism and arming lawless militias in order to achieve its expansionist agendas and suspicious goals in the region. The newspaper added that the Iranian policy, for more than four decades, adopts a sectarian and terrorist view, affirming that this regime is incapable of being a natural part of the world since it is threatening the world’s security and stability, the newspaper added. --SPA 10:17 LOCAL TIME 07:17 GMT 0009 www.spa.gov.sa/w1574168
