Riyadh, March 29, 2021, SPA -- Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas. Al-Bilad, Okaz, Al-Eqtisadiah, and Al-Riyadh newspapers reported in their editorials that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has always exerted prominent efforts to protect the planet and confront climate change. It has established advanced research centers in the fields of renewable energy, water desalination, water reuse, as well as desert agriculture. Moreover, the Kingdom was keen to protect the planet during its presidency of the G20 summit last year, in which a dedicated environmental declaration was issued, concept of Circular Carbon Economy was adopted and the first environmental taskforce was established, alongside the launching of two global initiatives to reduce land degradation and protection of coral reefs. The newspapers pointed to HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's announcement about “The Saudi Green Initiative and The Middle East Green Initiative:“ the two initiatives that are to be launched soon, aim to chart a path for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region in protecting the planet. Within the initiatives 50 billion trees will be planted in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, as the tree planting program is the largest reforestation program in the world. HRH the Crown Prince noted, “Just as the Kingdom underpinned energy markets during the oil and gas era, it is going to become a global leader in forging a greener world,” the newspapers concluded. In another context, Al-Yaum newspaper reported in its editorial that the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saudi Export Development Authority (SAUDI EXPORTS) Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef has announced launching the “Made in Saudi” Program under the patronage of HRH the Crown Prince; which is an initiative that aims at supporting national products and services at local and international levels. The minister noted that HRH the Crown Prince has great aspirations toward this important program, which is considered a program for all Saudis due to its high importance in changing the stereotype about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as being a country that relies greatly on its oil exports into a huge national market that includes a variety of products and multiple trademarks that will contribute to enriching the local industry and increasing the share of exports. The paper concluded by pointing to Al-Khorayef's saying that confidence in the national product has become an urgent need for having big economic impacts in stimulating local investments, attracting foreign investments, creating jobs, enhancing exportation capabilities, and improving the balance of payments, in addition to its big impact on expanding the economic base of the country and increasing GDP. --SPA 09:47 LOCAL TIME 06:47 GMT 0011 www.spa.gov.sa/w1532369
