Yemeni Government: Houthi militia is exploiting humanitarian situation to achieve political and financial gains

Aden, April 18, 2021, SPA -- The Yemeni Government has renewed its accusation against the Iranian-backed Houthi militia of using the humanitarian situation to mislead and blackmail the international community and international organizations. Yemeni Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Muammar Al-Iryani, affirmed that the continuation of the terrorist militia in creating the oil derivatives crisis, and trade in human suffering to achieve political and financial gains, in addition to using the humanitarian situation to mislead and blackmail the international community and international organizations, and to implement the systematic policies of impoverishment and starvation for Yemenis. In a statement to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Minister Al-Iryani revealed that the indicators of fuel flow to Yemen during the first half of April 2021 reaffirm the blockade lie and the Houthi rebels' creation of the oil derivatives crisis in their areas of control to revive the black market that they run. He pointed out that indicators confirm that the amount of fuel flowing into Yemen in the first half of this month amounted to 276,503 metric tons, and he said that "This quantity meets the average civilian and humanitarian needs in all regions of Yemen for a period of 20 days". According to the Minister, 70% of the amount of fuel flowing to Yemen during the period was transported by land to the Houthi-controlled areas, at an average daily rate of 12,000 metric tons, which the militia directed to the black market.
