Riyadh, July 02, 2020, SPA -- The Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has revealed the continuation of desert locust control activities by field exploration and control teams in several regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the aim of eliminating them and limiting their spread. The Ministry explained that 12,002 hectares were explored during the second half of last June, while 1585 hectares were treated in each of Taif, Riyadh, Baha and Najran regions, emphasizing that the desert locust situation in these areas has improved, and that exploration and control operations continue until the clearance is declared and the infection is completely over. It is noteworthy that this is due to the spread of the locusts phenomenon in neighboring countries and seasonal migration between breeding countries passing through the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as wind factors and swarm densities in neighboring countries, as this allowed them to perch for several days, in addition to the lack of rainfall. --SPA 15:51 LOCAL TIME 12:51 GMT 0015 www.spa.gov.sa/w1363173
