Al-Khobar, Mar 13, 2020, SPA -- Representatives of the G20 leaders discussed here today developments related the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and its effects on peoples and the global economy, this came during the second Sherpa session . Delegates expressed their deep sorrow and grief over this human tragedy due to the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), stressing that they stood in support and solidarity with all the affected countries, to combat the recently declared as pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). A statement issued in this regard said that the current situation due to this epidemic necessitates an international and firm response, as the countries of the group will work to improve the framework of cooperation and coordination to control and reduce the spread of the virus, protect people, mitigate its effects on the economy, and take the necessary measures to maintain the stability of the world economy and avoid any emergency repercussions. The statement added that caring for mankind is of the utmost importance, as the G-20 countries support WHO and work closely with it to monitor developments related to the outbreak of the virus, share relevant information, encourage preventive measures, as well as early detection of infections and taking clinical care measures. The group’s countries will also intensify their support for efforts to find early warning systems and provide appropriate treatments and vaccines. The statement went on to stress that fighting this disease in our countries is one of our top priorities, and then we will work at the same time to enhance capacity building and technical assistance among us, in addition to developing countries with weaker health systems and people most vulnerable to infection.
