The infant, the daughter of an Italian woman and Albanian man, was being looked after by her grandfather at home in Flero at the time of the attack, news agency Ansa reported. He had left her unattended for a short time at the time of the attack. The child was bitten as she tried to play with the dogs, according to local newspaper Corriere della Sera. As Carabinieri police arrived at the home the pitbulls were still so aggressive that they had to be shot dead.
