Riyadh, July 15, 2019 -- King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has extended the contract for implementation of its "MASAM" Landmine Clearance Project in Yemeni territories with an amount of $ 30,944,922 for one year, being carried out by Saudi cadres and international expertise, to clear all forms of mines especially in the governorates of Marib, Aden, Sana'a and Taiz. The project aims to help the Yemeni people to overcome humanitarian tragedies caused by the spread of mines. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court and KSrelief Supervisor General said in a statement that the renewal of this contract with the implementing partner comes as a result of the Center's humanitarian responsibility towards its brothers in Yemen in the completion of the clearance of the Yemeni land of mines, which Houthi militias manufactured and planted in an unprecedented random way and in various forms and camouflage in places targeting unarmed civilians, causing permanent injuries and chronic disabilities for children and the elderly, and other acts threatening the security and life. Dr. Al Rabeeah noted that this Saudi humanitarian and vital Project for mine clearance "MASAM" will serve Yemeni citizens and ensure their current and future security and it is one of several projects and initiatives provided by the Kingdom in line with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and HRH Crown Prince so that Yemen can achieve stability and development. He added that through the centers of artificial limbs established by the Center in the governorates of Marib and Aden, hundreds of prostheses have been installed for those whose limbs have been damaged because of these indiscriminate mines targeting women and children who constitute the majority of their victims. He explained that the Project in the first phase was enabled to extract more than 74,000 mines and a variety of shells. Dr. Al Rabeeah thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and HRH Crown Prince for their great efforts which helped KSrelief to provide relief aid in many countries around the world and in Yemen in particular. -- SPA 15:32 LOCAL TIME 12:32 GMT 0016 www.spa.gov.sa/w1138243
