RAMALLAH, February 05, 2019, SPA -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday said that he will not take part in any peace conference on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that will not be based on international United Nations resolutions. Speaking at a press conference at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah with this guest, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, who arrived in Palestine on an official state visit, President Abbas stressed that "we will not participate in any international conference not based on United Nations resolutions." He also said that no one is allowed to speak or negotiate on behalf of the Palestinians. "We are the first and last party responsible for the Palestinian cause. No one takes our place or speaks on our behalf," he said. The President stressed that the United States, after taking the Israeli side on all matters, "is no longer qualified to act as the sole mediator due to its bias toward Israel and its decisions against international law on Jerusalem, refugees and others." He called for convening an international peace conference to create and a multilateral mechanism to move forward on the road to peace. "This is where the European Union and its member States can play an important role alongside the (UN) Security Council." --SPA 22:20 LOCAL TIME 19:20 GMT 0023 www.spa.gov.sa/w831950
