Cairo, Dhu-AlQa'dah 4, 1438, Jul 27, 2017, SPA -- Arab foreign ministers lauded, at a meeting in Cairo today, the efforts being exerted by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to protect Al-Aqsa mosque as well as the efforts of King Abdullah II of Jordan, who is custodian of the Islamic and Christian shrines in the holy city of Al-Quds, resulting in ending the recent Israeli measures that hampered the historical and legal status of the mosque as well as the efforts done by King Mohammed VI of Morocco, who is the Chairman of Al-Quds committee in this concern. The Arab ministerial council also called on the UN security council to shoulder its responsibility in preserving peace, security and order, particularly applying the relevant resolutions, and coerce Israel to stop its continuing hostilities on Eastern Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa mosque, considered grave violations of the international laws and resolutions. Saudi Arabia's delegation to the meeting was led by Ambassador Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Gattan, ambassador of the Kingdom to Egypt, Saudi permanent representative to the Arab League, and dean of Arab diplomatic corps accredited by Egypt. The meeting, chaired by Algeria, also denounced the Israeli illegal measures taken by Israel in Al-Quds city and Al-Aqsa mosque, calling on the US administration to continue its efforts to restore security and end tension on the bases that guarantee the security of sanctities, their protection, respect of legal and historical status, and cancel the unilateral measures of Israel in the blessed Al-Aqsa mosque. The meeting said that had the problem was not wholly solved it would remain volatile and always likely to explode at any time. In a press release following the meeting, the Arab foreign ministers lauded the position of U.S. president committed to work for solving the struggle in the Middle East and achieve peace, calling for the importance of ending the impasse through launching a serious and effective round of negotiations to advance towards achieving peace on the bases of two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of the independent Palestinian state on the 1967 parallel with eastern Al-Quds as capital according to the international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative. --SPA 23:54 LOCAL TIME 20:54 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w455076
