The workshop is part of efforts by the OIC to endorse tools for combating extremism and promote moderate Islamic narrative that would present a correct image of Islam. The workshop will discuss the role of religious education in promoting peace and combating violence. It aims at considering the congruence between contemporary religious educational methodology and the wider trend of educational methodology, as well as teaching methods, assessment of teachers and students’ performances and the outcomes of religious education. The workshop will also discuss ways in which various religious schools and institutions can contribute to the broader educational experiences in promoting Islam, advancing contemporary issues and preventing the fall into extremism. In addition, the workshop will discuss ways to benefit from the social media and electronic sites in improving religious education.
