New York mayor says no terrorism link in blast that injured 29

New York, Dhu-AlHijjah 17, 1437, September 18, 2016, SPA -- There was no evidence of a terrorism connection in a New York blast that injured 29 people in Chelsea late Saturday, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said, according to dpa. "There is no evidence at this point of a terror connection," de Blasio said at a press conference, but he spoke of an "intentional act," and a "very serious incident." According to the New York City fire department (FDNY), 29 people were injured, of whom 24 people were hospitalized. One person's injuries were described as "serious," FDNY said on Twitter. Authorities were investigating the cause of the blast which took place on 23rd Street at about 8:30 pm (0030 GMT). Subway services in the area were suspended or rerouted because of the incident. There were indications that it occurred inside a dumpster, according to local news channel NY1. Police said "a possible secondary device" was discovered at 27th Street. Investigations were ongoing.
