Manama, Dhu-AlHijjah 23, 1438, Sep 14, 2017, SPA -- The Manama Centre for Human Rights (MCHR) denounced the Government of Qatar’s sudden withdrawal of the citizenship of Sheikh Talib bin Mohammed bin Lahoom bin Shuraim Al-Murrah, along with his 54-member family, including children and women. In a statement issued today, MCHR said that this collective punishment comes against the backdrop of the floundering political situation from the Qatari government against its citizens, noting that this move is one of the worst violations of the principles of human rights and contrary to international laws and standards, especially that the decision was issued without any legal reasons. The MCHR condemned the miscalculated collective punishment which affected children and women because they belong to families, some whose members have been subject to systematic revenge for exercising their inalienable rights to freedom of movement and freedom of opinion and expression. The MCHR said that acquisition of citizenship is one of the rights inherent to all human beings. The MCHR called on all humanitarian institutions and organizations in Qatar and abroad to assume their role and follow up on their situation, stressing that all organizations are responsible if any one of them is under danger, especially the Qatari Institution which ignored this violation, and became a tool to implement the Qatari policies, noting that the NHRC has opened up political doors and windows and abandoned its role in defending human rights principles. --SPA 18:54 LOCAL TIME 15:54 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w487722
