Flooding and landslides destroyed 52,900 houses and damaged another 155,000, local authorities in Hebei province told Xinhua. More than 700,000 hectares of crops were destroyed, causing more than 16 billion yuan (2.4 billion dollars) in damage, the report said. Almost 310,000 people were evacuated.
