Bogota, Dhu-AlQa'dah 21, 1437, Aug 24, 2016, SPA -- Colombia's government and the FARC rebel group plan to sign a final peace accord in September, with a national referendum on the deal to follow in early October, dpa cited a Colombian senator who is party to the peace talks as telling media Wednesday. Senator Roy Barreras, who is part of the team negotiating on behalf of the government of President Juan Manuel Santos, told Caracol Radio the final accord would be signed in about three weeks. The peace deal will put an end to the armed conflict between Colombia's government and the left-wing Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) that has simmered for more than 50 years. It must be approved by a national referendum to take effect. Colombia announced the successful end to four years of peace talks Tuesday night.
