Berlin, Shawwal 13, 1437, July 18, 2016, SPA -- German prosecutors charged a train dispatcher with 12 counts of involuntary manslaughter on Monday, saying that a game on his smartphone distracted him before a fatal collision of two commuter trains in Bavaria earlier this year, dpa reported. The 39-year-old signals control officer was also charged with 89 counts of negligent bodily harm, said prosecutors in the German town Traunstein. Investigators are working on the assumption that "the train dispatcher was distracted by the use of an online computer game immediately before the collision despite an existing ban [of that activity]," a statement said. "If he had acted according to the rules, according to his duty, this collision would not have occurred," it added. Two commuter trains collided on a single-line track near the Bavarian town of Bad Aibling on February 9 after an automatic braking system that usually prevents head-on collisions was apparently disabled.
