Sydney, Shawwal 13, 1437, July 18, 2016, SPA -- Former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd is seeking the post of United Nations secretary-general, and wants the help of political rivals currently in office, according to dpa. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said Monday that Rudd had requested the formal Australian nomination to succeed Ban Ki-Moon, whose term ends on December 31. "That will be a matter for cabinet," Bishop said. "I'll certainly put the matter forward." Rudd used to lead the Labor Party, while Bishop and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull are from the Liberal Party. Turnbull is holding his first cabinet meeting Monday, since narrowly winning the July 2 election. If nominated, Rudd would compete with former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark, who announced her candidacy earlier this year. --SPA 03:48 LOCAL TIME 00:48 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
