Moscow/Berlin, Rabi'II 02, 1436, January 22, 2015, SPA -- The violence in eastern Ukraine surged again on Thursday amid reports that government troops had given up Donetsk airport after months of fighting against pro-Russian separatists, dpa reported. A report and videos published by Russia's Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper said that the Ukrainian armed forces had left the airport's main terminal and that separatists had captured 16 soldiers. The Ukrainian defence ministry admitted that 20 soldiers had left the terminal building, but added that "the battle around the airport continues" and that other buildings remain under Ukrainian control. The ministry did confirm that 16 soldiers were injured and captured by the separatists.
