Washington, Ramadan 13, 1436, Jun 30, 2015, SPA -- The United States and Brazil on Tuesday pledged to increase their use of renewable energy in electricity generation from sources excluding hydro-power to 20 percent by 2030. The two countries made the announcement in a joint statement issued while U.S. President Barack Obama hosted Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff at the White House. Brazil also committed to reforest 12 million hectares of land by 2030 and agreed to implement a broader climate-change plan that is “fair and ambitious.” It intends to “improve low-carbon agricultural and grazing land practices,” promote new clean-technology standards for industry, and increase energy efficiency, the statement said. --SPA 20:41 LOCAL TIME 17:41 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
