Manama, Shawwal 09, 1436, July 25, 2015, SPA -- Bahraini security authorities have disrupted an attempt to smuggle high-grade explosives, automatic weapons, and ammunition, into Bahrain, by sea. In a statement issued today, Bahraini Ministry of Interior said that on July 15, the Bahrain Coast Guard, in coordination with Police Aviation Unit and Bahrain Royal Naval Force, have intercepted a vessel heading towards Bahrain, following meeting another vessel, just outside Bahrain's territorial waters. Two Bahraini suspects on board were arrested. The initial inquiries show that the first suspect has received military training, in Iran, in August 2013. The training included making and using of explosive ordnance and improvised explosive devices, as well as firearms training at Iranian Revolutionary Guards' camp. The two suspects were also provided with funds to assist their failed smuggling operation, the statement said. The arrested admitted involvement in two previous smuggling operations: the first at the end of 2013 and the second at the beginning of 2014. They have been referred to the Public Prosecution, while further investigations continue, the statement concluded --SPA 20:55 LOCAL TIME 17:55 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
