Economy Magazine: Tourism Sector Contributes 2.7% to Saudi GDP 2 Dammam

The magazine added that the field of tourism in the Kingdom has witnessed a significant growth in 2015, and the Kingdom ranked 64 globally in the "Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index" for 2015 and surpassed ancient countries in the field of tourism in the Middle East such as Tunisia which was ranked 79, Egypt 83, Lebanon 94, Kuwait 103, Algeria 123 and Yemen 138, thanks to the strength of the Saudi business environment, infrastructure, high safety and security standards, stressing the Kingdom's ambition to progress to the first fifty ranks in the coming years. For its part, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage reported that rate of job growth in the tourism sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between 2010/2020 AD is estimated at 10 per cent per annum compared with the rate of global growth for the same period, which was estimated at 2.5% per annum. It further said that it is expected that job opportunities in the Kingdom's tourism sector will be of 1.7 million jobs in 2020. The magazine also pointed to the global importance accorded to Saudi tourism landmarks when the International Organization for World Heritage "UNESCO" in its 39th meeting in the German city of Bonn has decided to register the rock drawings in Hail region on the World Heritage List to be the fourth site in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia registered on this list after the archaeologist sites of Madain Saleh, Dir’iya and Historic Jeddah. --SPA 16:09 LOCAL TIME 13:09 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
