Mexico City, Rajab 3, 1436, Apr 22, 2015, SPA -- Mexican authorities on Wednesday recovered a radioactive capsule that had been stolen in the southern state of Tabasco, according to dpa. National civil protection coordinator Luis Felipe Puente said that the radioactive Iridium-192 was found on a footbridge in Tabasco after an emergency call to police to alert them of its whereabouts. The capsule had not been opened. An alert about the capsule had been issued last week in five states - Tabasco, Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca and Veracruz - along with federal security facilities, including Civil Protection, National Defence, the Navy and federal police The ban has been lifted, Puente said. The Iridium-192, which could have been lethal for anyone not trained to handle it properly, was stolen from a vehicle belonging to the private firm Garantia Radiografica e Ingenieria, which uses such material for industrial purposes. Radioactive material has been stolen several times in recent years in Mexico. Usually, the robbers take it by accident when trying to steal other valuables and do not immediately realize how dangerous it is. --SPA 22:27 LOCAL TIME 19:27 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
