King Abdullah Port Records 333% Throughput Increase of Bulk and General Cargos in 2019

Riyadh, February 23, 2020, SPA -- King Abdullah Port has announced that the ports’s annual throughput of bulk and general cargos increased to 2.98 million tons by the end of 2019, an increase of 333%, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year which recorded 689,000 tons. The number of received cargo vessels also increased to 85 vessels, compared to 57 vessels in 2018. The number of imported containers handled by the port increased from 190,005 in 2018 to 203,670 in 2019, an increase of 7.2%. Meanwhile, the annual throughput of containers handled by the port decreased by 12.2%. The increasing numbers recorded by the port reflect its effective role in the logistics services sector and maritime shipping which contributes to the objective of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, raising the share of non-oil exports. His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense inaugurated King Abdullah Port officially in February 2019.
