Riyadh, Mar 4, 2019, SPA -- The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) held a meeting with the delegates of its Member Countries to present the development and implementation mechanism of IMCTC initiatives. These initiatives aim to counter terrorism in four major domains: Ideology, Communications, Military and Counter-Terrorism Financing. In a speech during a meeting held in Riyadh recently, Major General Mohammad bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, IMCTC Acting Secretary General, highlighted the importance of achieving the aspirations of IMCTC member countries’ Ministers of Defense, in their Inaugural Council Meeting, that laid out the necessary foundations to kick start the action plan set to fulfill IMCTC objectives. Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi highlighted “Our Muslim communities have long suffered from the scourge of terrorism, and countering it is one of the top priorities for our nations. IMCTC is determined to eradicate terrorism in accordance with the teachings of Islam as in the Quranic verse ‘And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.’ This guidance serves as the beacon that leads us towards fulfilling our aspirations in service to our homelands.” He also highlighted the exceptional work the delegates are performing in this Coalition which is unique in its nature, principles and strategic goals. For his part, General Raheel Sharif, IMCTC Military Commander, underlined the importance of IMCTC as an “excellent platform that offers the opportunity to undertake all counterterrorism efforts across the four domains of action in an integrated manner.” He added that “terrorism today has become the worst evil on the face of the planet and countering it has become the most significant challenge of the 21st century.” General Raheel also highlighted that terrorists not only have the means and capabilities but also work together to spread harm. Terrorist organizations are not confined to known terror groups such as Daesh, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, etc that most people are familiar with, but rather include a wider array of supporters, enablers, financers and sleeper cells, all of which pose a significant threat. --SPA 17:10 LOCAL TIME 14:10 GMT 0021 www.spa.gov.sa/w847660
