Mexico City, Safar 19, 1438, Nov 19, 2016, SPA -- A former rebel group in Mexico, the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), said Saturday that it would not be taking part in the country's next presidential elections. "Neither the EZLN organization nor any of its members will be taking part in the 2018 elections," a statement from the group said, according to dpa. The announcement represents a change of stance from one month ago, when the group said it would find an indigenous candidate to run in the polls. Mexico's conflict with the EZLN began in 1994 and never formally ended, but all charges against the rebel group's leader, "Subcomandante Marcos," were dropped earlier this year. In the southern state of Chiapas, where the Zapatistas wielded influence, there has been a ceasefire and indigenous communities have organized themselves into autonomous communities. -- SPA 20:49 LOCAL TIME 17:49 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w272496
