New Delhi, Dhu-AlQa'dah 2, 1437, Aug 5, 2016, SPA -- A dozen people were feared killed Friday and several were injured after suspected militants opened fire at a busy market in India's Assam state, news reports said. A group of militants shot at shoppers and lobbed grenades in the crowded marketplace at Balajan Tiniali near Kokrajhar town, dpa quoted state police chief Mukesh Sahay as saying. One rebel was killed, he added. Up to 12 people at the market had been killed, broadcaster NDTV reported, quoting witnesses. Officials, including junior home minister Kiren Rijiju, said a "number of people were killed in the attack" but refused to confirm the figure. "Many people have received gun-shot injuries. Our forces have reached the spot and one militant was neutralized. Three [to] four more militants are on the run. We are in hot pursuit," Sahay told reporters. --SPA 13:47 LOCAL TIME 10:47 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
