Brasilia, Dhu-AlQa'dah 01, 1437, August 04, 2016, SPA -- A Brazilian Senate commission voted as anticipated Thursday in favor of impeaching President Dilma Rousseff, in a move that clears one of the final hurdles before a trial expected late this month, according to dpa. The 14-5 vote on the eve of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games followed two hours of debate in which a majority of senators appeared to support the case against Rousseff. The full Senate is expected to vote next week whether to proceed with a trial. Rousseff was suspended from office May 12 ahead of formal impeachment proceedings. She is charged with manipulating government accounts to obscure the country's economic situation during her 2014 re-election campaign. She rejects that charge and has called the suspension a "coup." --SPA 22:36 LOCAL TIME 19:36 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
