Islamabad, Shawwal 16, 1436, Aug 1, 2015, SPA -- The death toll from three weeks of flooding in Pakistan rose to 92, officials said on Saturday. Most deaths were reported in the mountainous north of the country where flash floods cut off many regions, dpa quoted the National Disaster Management Authority as saying. Military engineers repaired roads and bridges in the Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan areas to help rescuers reach people cut off for days, the authority said in a statement. River Indus, which flows down from the Himalayas to the Arabian Sea, flooded at several points in southern Sindh province, meteorological department chief Ghulam Rasool said. At least 200,000 people have so far been evacuated from the banks of the river, the disaster authority said. More rain is expected this week, Rasool said. Nearly 400 people were killed and crops on thousands of acres of land were destroyed by floods last year during the monsoon, which lasts from mid-July until the end of August. --SPA 21:10 LOCAL TIME 18:10 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
