Singapore, Sha'ban 13, 1436, May 31, 2015, SPA -- No weapons were found in a car that had crashed through police barricades near the venue of a major Asia security summit, police said Sunday, according to dpa. Three men were at a security checkpoint near the Shangri-La Hotel at around 4:36 am, but then accelerated the vehicle and crashed through the barricades. Police opened fire, killing one and detaining two others. A search of the vehicle revealed "no explosives, arms or weapons," although "substances believed to be controlled drugs and an item believed to be a drug-taking utensil" were found on the men, a statement said. All three men were Singaporean. Security has been tight around the hotel this weekend during the annual Shangri-La Dialogue that is attended by dozens of defence chiefs from the Asia-Pacific region. --SPA 10:24 LOCAL TIME 07:24 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
